Cactus Info

Few words about myself:
I finished my secondary machine-technician school in Despotovac, but I work in ''WIENER STADTISCHE'' OSIGURANJE ADO BEOGRAD (assurance company), branch office in Ćuprija, as a sale manager. I've dealt with cacti and succulents since i was very young. I can recall when my father took me to Winter Plants Fair in Belgrade and we bought first cacti of mine (I was still in primary school then). Regrettably, i drown them quickly with water because of my ungroundness. Much, much later, when I was introduced to Novica Janjić, my office-fellow, under his influence I started to occupy myself again for this 'plants from outer space' as he used to call them.

As a beginner, i made many mistakes providing cacti completely bad treatment. All the knowledge I acquired was only due to good will of Novica and his patience. Knowing species and their identification has come later, because it was more important to me how to grow them than what name they had. Meanwhile, visiting meetings of Serbian Cacti Society and talking to members helped me a lot.

I have no problems to place my plants over the summer, so I usually produce excessive number of cacti and succulents. Many of them are gifts for my friends, other go to plants exchange and rest of them i sell because i have other hobbies and I need some money to cover them. I also need money to acquire some new species, new pots, fertilizers etc. Just as many others, I have a dream to have a greenhouse where my plants would grow in affluence.

Beside plants, my hobbies are numismatics, philately and I am collector of antiquity, things and documents (postcards, old photos, old church and other calendars, ancient documents, clocks, etc).
